Air Force Research Laboratory

The mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is to discover, develop, integrate and deliver affordable technologies for improved warfighting capabilities. Formed in October 1997 as the product of an organizational consolidation that integrated previously separate Air Force laboratories (Armstrong, Phillips, Rome and Wright-Patterson) with the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, AFRL consists of 10 directorates, situated across the country.

A unique partnership - Bechtel National, University of California, BWX Technologies, and Washington Group International - is the management and operating (M&O) contractor. LANL is one of the largest institutions of its kind, employing more than 9,000 employees plus approximately 650 contractor personnel. The annual budget is approximately $2.2 billion.

Science & Technology Park @ UNM

The Science & Technology Park @ UNM is owned and managed by the University of New Mexico. The Park is comprised of 163 acres, 41 of which were developed during Phase I. Phase II has commenced with the development of an additional 42 acres. Future phases will encompass approximately 80 acres. The Park was established in 1965, revived in 1988, and today consists of 534,263 square feet of existing research & development, laboratory, office and mixed-use space. The tenant focus is on technology-based companies, many of which are the creation of the Science & Technology Corporation @ UNM, the University’s technology commercialization arm. Leasing and development options include land sales, ground leases, built-to-suit and space leases.

The MTTC houses offices for academic and commercial tenants, research and training facilities, prototyping bays, a 6,200 sq. ft. semiconductor cleanroom, an auditorium, and a cafe.
