About Us

New Mexico shares a 175-mile border with Mexico, offering distinct advantages to maquiladora operators and suppliers.

New Mexico's well-developed transportation infrastructure, established distribution network, low recruiting cost structure, and an educated, available workforce are all reasons to locate in the state.

New Mexico sits at the crossroads of the new manufacturing economy, ideally positioned between the heart of the American industry and new suppliers and factories in Mexico. New Mexico’s location bordering the Mexican state of Chihuahua and its many maquilas is an enormous asset. Chihuahua has at least 30 large-scale automotive operations alone, ranging from parts suppliers to full-scale auto assembly.

As the American automotive, electronics, and general manufacturing industries continue to expand south and expand maquiladora operations, New Mexico is positioned to recruit industry suppliers and large scale assembly operations.

Seventy-nine percent of Mexico’s 2,826 maquilas are owned by U.S. firms. For these maquila suppliers, a move to southern New Mexico brings them closer to the massive Mexican market.

Adjacent to the border, the Santa Teresa Industrial Park is a prime location for U.S. firms doing business with maquilas in Mexico.
